Know Your Enemy

Just a reminder for folks to familiarize themselves with those on the other side of the political spectrum.  When you get the chance, engage liberals in conversation and debate, or just listen in.  I'll often tune in to Al Franken's radio show on my lunch break just to get a sense of his take on the issues of the day. A lot can be learned even though you may disagree strongly with what they say. Of course listening is key; getting in a shouting match won't accomplish a thing. If nothing else you'll have a better understanding of what the other side thinks and you can better define the things that you believe in.

Still Traveling

With all the complaints and concerns over gas prices, people still seem to travel with no worries about paying for gas.  On a trip recently to northern Minnesota from the twin cities metro area, I realized the roads were just as packed now as they were four years ago when gas prices were almost half what they are now (around $1.60) and I regularly traveled that route.  There also seemed to be even more vehicles pulling a wide assortment of recreational vehicles.

Just saw a poll on the Townhall main page indicating 3 out of 4 Americans blame big oil and/or President Bush for high gas prices.  That study may coincide with my observations that 3 out of 4 Americans have no idea how free market economies work.  Probably those same 3 out 4 are out there on the highways each weekend driving off to their cabins and lake houses.  I would posit high demand may have more to do with it than lowering supply (mid east conflict).  Rather than complaining about what they can't control (supply) consumers need act on that which they can control and leave their cars in the garage more frequently.
